Dave was an incredible wealth of knowledge of the railroad
and the town of Chester, and the quarries, granite, and businesses
that created Chester. Impressed with his concern with how we enjoyed
our experience, comfort, wood for the burn pit.
Enjoyed viewing the children's train and the assorted toys.
We also walked thru the train which has the potential to become
a fully functional kitchen for banquets.

Hi Dave, It’s Julie Rivers (your New Years guests) with a review - please feel
free to post to your website. I’m also happy to make changes if you’d like!
Please let me know if you’d like me to post it anywhere, such as Trip Advisor,
Google, etc.
Thanks so much once again for everything. We had a blast! We stayed in the
caboose for two nights of “glamping” over New Years Eve as a family of four
(17 & 12 years old.) We had such a blast!
There are space heaters (a/c for the hot months), Wi-Fi, and the bunks are
surprisingly comfortable.
It’s such a neat experience to go back in time to 1919!
The caboose is right next to an active railroad so you get to see and hear
trains throughout the day/night.
It was surprisingly not disruptive even in the sleeping hours.
There is a ton of fascinating local history and Dave is incredibly knowledgeable.
He’s also super responsive to any questions and/or requests. His German Shepard
named Major loves playing fetch with guests!
The attached train museum is beautiful and filled with very interesting railway history.
Bring sleeping bags, board games, and snacks and you’ll have a blast if this is your kind of thing!
Highly recommend for a fun and unique experience.
Julie Rivers

Amazing in every way. In the winter it is quite cold and the
caboose is very old and so is its furniture, so it is not luxurious.
But aside from that the location on the active railroad and
the atmosphere is a 10/10.

We spent one night in the caboose, and loved it!! It's such a unique experience
and Dave Pierce is such a fountain of knowledge!! He shared the local history,
some train history, showed us the inside of the museum and gave us some local tips
for hiking in the area. There's so much history in Chester we had NO IDEA about before meeting Dave.
The caboose itself is just as expected, it's glamping. The padding on the benches was
sufficient to keep us comfortable, and 2 space heaters inside the caboose kept us warm
in our sleeping bags! It was fun to sit in the upper seating in the cupola and look out.
The stars are AMAZING at night!! There are trains that come by at all times of the day and night,
but that's part of what we loved about our stay! It's an easy walk to a few restaurants
(we highly recommend Blue Note/Classic Pizza for a fun little dive bar). Our puppy even got
some playtime with Dave's dog Major. I would highly recommend the area, the caboose, the museum,
and the nearby hiking!! I would stay again in a heartbeat!

We had a wonderful time in every way! Dave was a great host. Helpful, considerate and incredibly knowledgeable of all everything about Chester and the railroad. The caboose was a charming and comfortable place to spend the night. We were able to make dinner on an outdoor grill and eat outdoors also. Chester is a lovely town with so many beautiful bridges! We had breakfast at Carm’s with their amazing bread (home-made?) and otherwise great food and amazingly inexpensive. We left feeling sad that we could only stay one night.

Review My family really enjoyed our stay. I still can't get over my kid's face as we arrived, approached, unlocked, explored, and had a big dessert in the caboose- absolute wonder- I'm not sure there was any blinking, just eyes wide the whole time. It was such a unique experience to sit up in the lookout and watch these huge trains go by and definitely was a memory we will take with us. Dave was a wonderful host, took care of every need- and we got a great private tour of parts of the museum and history of the station.

We had an awesome time. Dave was awesome, he paid us visits every once and awhile, filled with knowledge of the town. He show us around the station museum, the kids box car, and a huge saw blade from a stone mill. He told us of a hiking trail that brought us around one of the oldest stone bridges, called the keystone arches. The rails are busy but it's a railfans dream. The kids loved it some engineers gave a horn and bell show for them almost as if they were looking for guests at the caboose. We will be back again when we have more time to explore the history rich area. Once again thank you Dave for an awesome one of a kind stay!

The best glamping we ever had. We'd been camping and glamping for years but this is the best ever. From day one, Dave was there to assist us. He made us feel very comfortable and make sure we're secured. The place is so perfect - very peaceful and full of life. The museum is just few steps away and Dave was there to give you the rich history of Chester. There are lots of trails around the glamping area. Restaurants, bar, and grocery store are just right there for your daily needs. You can consider this place for a weekend getaway or for any other occasion like a birthday party--- which was exactly what we did celebrating my son's birthday in the caboose! I can tell more good stories about this place but for now I leave them for you to discover. I challenge you to visit the place and write your own story!

Dave was an absolutely wonderful and kind host! The area of Cheater is picturesque: beautiful mountains surrounding the entire town with many calming rivers and trails. The tiny home was plenty big and could host 5-6 people comfortably if 2 people slept on air mattresses. We can’t say enough about Dave and his accommodation. Dave has been nothing short of fantastic to give us a tour around the Museum and to take the time to explain to the kids plus give us a short history lesson about the importance of the Chester MA station. Also, Dave was very helpful with finding us some materials that we forgot to pack. And most importantly, if you’re looking for a good reason to visit this site is to help “them keep the lights” open according to Dave like any other business seems like it’s difficult now and this is certainly fir a good cause The Caboose was spacious Enough for the five of us though we brought one air mattress. There’s also a place to light fire outdoor but was too cold for our family We’re sure you and your family are going to enjoy this very unique experience.

If you're looking for a small town getaway, rich in history and plenty of places to hike; look no further. This adorable caboose was such a fun, weekend trip for my family and I! This is an ideal experience for parents looking for a hands on train and nature educational, experience. Dave, the groundskeeper, was incredibly hospitable and accommodating. We cooked on the outdoor fire/grill and there was a small mini fridge available for a small fee to keep our cold items. Trains do run through there, so keep that in mind for sleeping scenarios. Also, make sure you check out the amazing local restaurant, Carms. Thanks,

It was simply magical!! My two tween boys had an amazing time and we were all captivated by Dave - our host - many historic stories. We did a few hikes (Key Stone Arches trail and others) as well as simply enjoy playing lots of board games (to the delight of my tweens). An experience you will truly enjoy! We spent a night in the caboose and have vowed to come back! There is so much to tell about this place. But the magic comes together under the care of Dave Pierce. This 100 year old train car is clean and well-cared for. It was restored to allow future generations to enjoy. The views of the Berkshire foothills are wonderful. And you are very close to great restaurants--we enjoyed dinner at the Common Table and breakfast at Carm's (in an old gas station on Route 20 at Hamden Street). Both restaurants were staffed by Aaron and Erin--locally known as "The Aa/Erins." Upon arriving, Dave welcomed us and gave us the tour of the old railway station, which had been moved twenty years ago to avoid demolition. (And there is an amazing story there, where people joined together to save it--one even mortgaging her house to bridge the shortfall of $70,000!) Then he brought us to the old caboose. Our six year old son was blown away--and, truthfully, so were we! The sunset brought out hummingbirds and goldfinches to the station's beautiful flowers. We brought sleeping bags and pillows, as linens are not included in the accommodations. We found the bench pads to be super comfortable. The night sky was clear as a bell and I saw a shooting star. Several former guests left behind books and lawn chairs and sundry items for others to use. This is perfectly in line with the feel of this place: It is not ours to own, but it is ours to enjoy for a short time--all thanks to the stewardship of souls like Dave Pierce. Dave, just wanted you to know that we truly enjoyed our relaxing stay in the caboose. We looked forward to the rumble of the train cars - even in the middle of the night. We tried to submit a report to Trip Advisor today; however, since we submitted one for the museum just a few weeks ago, their policy is to wait at least three more months before writing another. Your dedication to the maintenance and events at Station 10 is awesome! We plan to return. Perhaps in spring. Dave is a wonderful host, walking us through the museum, telling us about the history of Chester, Mass
- a place I'd never even heard of before. The caboose is so unique - and was very
comfortable. We brought sleeping bags and pillows. There's a great restaurant for dinner and a cute little place for breakfast. Hiking the area has some wonderful scenery. Room for tents - so a big family has plenty of room. The children's caboose has so much for kids to play with - learning the history of trains in the area. Highly recommend.

The cabin is kept very clean and the grounds are very neat!
The host David was amazing. He did everything possible to make our stay perfect!!
Stacey Mochrie We had a fantastic time in the Caboose. It was in it's original condition, and our kids loved it's uniqueness.
It is situated in downtown Chester - everything is within a walkable distance, and Chester is beautiful.
We would definitely stay again as it is such a fun experience - for train lovers, and non train lovers alike!

The caboose was great. Very unique and true to its era. Dave was a great host and was extremely passionate and knowledgeable about the history of the town and the railway. The night in the train was great, being able to hang by the fire and catch the freight trains going by was an experience all in its own. That being said, if you don’t want to be woken up every hour on the hour by passing trains, you may want to consider another option, but we were there for the trains so we got what we came for. 10/10 would recommend and we hopefully will be able to do it again sometime!!! 5 stars

Your dedication to the maintenance and events at the Station is awesome! We plan to return. Perhaps in spring.

My family camped in the caboose the last two falls in a row and we will definitely go again next year.
Looking forward to hiking around with Dave again and learning about our history in rail.

This was an awesome experience. It's a free attraction that runs off of donations. A true hidden gem.

Trip Adviser Reviews

My husband and I enjoyed Dave's guided tour of this historic building so much that we decided to return in a few weeks to take more time reading all the descriptions of the artifacts on display. At that time, we will stay overnight in the caboose on the grounds and walk the Keystone Arch Bridges Trail that is close by. Dave's colorful anecdotes were interesting as well as humorous. We learned a lot. Children can learn a lot, too, in the Children's Boxcar where everything is hands on. Near the end of this enjoyable visit, a long freight train passed right by us on its way up a mountain.
